About Wafa Sultan
Wafa Sultan is a Syrian-American
psychologist who has become noted since the September 11, 2001 attacks for her
participation in Middle East political debate. Her essays have circulated widely
and she has participated in some notable television appearances on Al-Jazeera
and CNN.
Her remarks set off debates around the globe and her name began appearing in
Arabic newspapers and Web sites. But her fame grew exponentially when she
appeared on Al Jazeera again on Feb. 21, an appearance that was translated and
widely distributed by the Middle East Media Research Institute, known as MEMRI,
which said the clip of her February appearance had been viewed more than a
million times. In May of 2006, Dr. Sultan was named as one of Time Magazine’s
“100 People Who Shape Our World.”
