American foreign policy is being hotly debated at
home and abroad. What are the issues behind the controversies? Are we heading on
the right course?
On October, 30, 2003 as part of "The People Speak: America Debates its Role in
the World," a nationwide event including hundreds of debates, we were proud to
present a debate on the question:
Should the US use preemptive military force to
stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction?
Debaters included:
-
Bach Ho - Ayn Rand Society
-
Vanessa Zuabi - Society of Arab Students
-
Ryan Mikyta - Irvine Review
-
Alexander Phillips - Irvine Progressive
Audience participation will be encouraged during the question-and-answer period
following the formal debate.

This
event was part of The People Speak: America Debates Its Role in
the World,
a nationwide
public education effort to stimulate a national dialogue
about the future of U.S. foreign policy. This debate comes at a
critical time in our history as the outlines of a new U.S. approach
to promoting national and global security are emerging on the ground
– in Iraq – and in the statements of senior government officials.
Our
debate on October 30th was part of an effort to attain a goal of hosting
1,000 debates across the country during October 2003 and truly engage Americans
in this important issue. More information about
this effort can be found at
