Dr. Richard Matthew participated in

Dialogue on Environmental Resources and Social Conflict, sponsored by
IUCN's
Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), at the
2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development.
First Inputs from the Dialogue
 The
dialogue, Environmental Resources and Social Conflict, September 3 focused
on the mismanagement of and inequitable access to environmental resources.
Speakers included Mark Halle, the Vice Chair of IUCN's Commission
on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), Richard Matthew,
University of California, Irvive, Asif Ali Zaidi, IUCN Pakistan,
and Art Hanson, International Institute for Sustainable
Development.
The
field of environment and security is broad and currently, IUCN is
exploring its many facets, including the environmental roots of conflict,
the impact of conflict on the environment, and the ways and means of
avoiding conflict and accelerating reconstruction where it has occurred.
