The Human Security Award is presented annually to an individual or group whose actions have made a dramatic difference in helping protect and empower the world’s most vulnerable groups and communities. The Center for Unconventional Security Affairs and the Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation, in partnership with the Center for Living Peace, is pleased to announced the 2015 recipient of the 11th annual Human Security Award will be presented to Dr. James Orbinski.

Dr. Orbinski is globally recognized as a humanitarian and public health advocate. His extraordinary service with Doctors Without Borders has brought medical leadership and relief to numerous regions, including Afghanistan, Rwanda, and Somalia, among many others, during times of war, genocide, and internal crises. From 1998 to 2001, Dr. Orbinski served as the elected international president of Doctors Without Borders, which received the Nobel Peace Prize for its leading approach to medical humanitarianism in 1999.
