Education for the Next Generation of Security
Specialists
CUSA's educational component includes training
programs for security professionals and first responders as well as degree
programs at the graduate level. Our Master's and Doctoral Programs are
interdisciplinary and weave together perspectives from the social and natural
sciences.
Graduate Education
CUSA
is working with the Department of Planning,
Policy, and Design in the School of Social Ecology to develop a Security Studies
track in their proposed Masters of Public Policy Degree which is expected to
begin in 2007-2008. This masters-level program will incorporate international
relations, social science, physical science and business perspectives to train
the next generation of security specialists for the public and private sectors.
In addition to the proposed MPP degree, a number
of graduate degree programs in areas related to unconventional security are
available through the University of California, Irvine.
- CUSA is a University of California
Center, and while it does directly offer graduate degrees, many of the
students involved with CUSA are students in graduate programs at UCI.
Most of our students are enrolled in degree programs through the School
of Social Ecology. Follow the links below for more information:

Graduate Fellowships
The Center for Unconventional Security Affairs
(CUSA) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for two fellowships: (1) The
Heather Mills McCartney Graduate Fellowship in Human Security, and (2) The
Coalition Advocating Human Security Fellowships in Human Security. Application
for these fellowships is open to all UCI doctoral students and are intended to
support research on human security issues, including topics such as human
rights, sustainable development, development of alternative energy sources and
pro-poor technologies, medical and public health interventions, environmental
change, peace building and conflict resolution. We especially encourage
applications from students in fields of medicine, the natural sciences,
engineering, and information technology whose work has applicability to reducing
human insecurity.
