Crisis Planning for Business

Enterprise Risk Management in an Age of Transnational Threats

In response to growing concern about disruptions to business resulting from transnational threats such as terrorism, identity theft and infectious disease, the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs (CUSA) is pleased to announce this half-day workshop, which provided provided leaders in the business, military, and first responder communities with information about security threats likely to have a significant impact on business.

Our goal is to deliver concise, objective and expert information that can be acted on immediately. The May 20 workshop was designed to provide CEOs and CEO designates with:

  • expert insight into the threats terrorism and infectious disease pose to the business community;
  • clear analysis of what to expect—from government response to liability issues--if a high consequence event happens;
  • concrete steps business leaders can take immediately after the workshop to integrate preparedness into strategic planning;
  • vetted resources for more detailed follow up.
  • Presenters at Crisis Planning for Business included:

    Tom Davin is President and Chief Operating Officer of Panda Restaurant Group, Inc.  

    Brigadier General Tom Draude USMC (Ret.) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Marine Corps University Foundation and The Robert A. Lutz Distinguished Chair of Military Studies at the Marine Corps University. 

    Lieutenant General Wallace Gregson, Jr. USMC currently serves as the Commander, U.S. Marine Forces Pacific; Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific; and Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Bases, Pacific, headquartered at Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii.  

    Dr. Zvi Lanir is the founder and President of Praxis Institute (www.praxis.co.il), which specializes in the development and provision of strategic thinking and early warning platforms for government and business organizations.  

    Mark H. Mansfield is the Principal of Decision Point, LLC, a firm that specializes in Decision Mapping and serves most major industry sectors on a global basis by offering the experience, support, and proven methodology necessary to lead executive teams and stakeholders in making the best decisions possible.  

    Dr. Richard A. Matthew is Director of the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs (www.cusa.uci.edu) and Associate Professor of International and Environmental Politics in the Schools of Social Ecology and Social Science at the University of California at Irvine. 

    Lieutenant Colonel Roger Morin, USMC is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and School of Advanced Warfighting, and joined the Marine Corps University faculty in July 2004.   

    Dr. James Newcomb is managing Director, Research for Bio Economic Research Associates (bio-era™), a leading provider of independent research and advisory services on the economic and societal impacts of human-induced change to biological systems.  

    Brigadier General Frank Quinlan, USMCR (Ret.) is a business attorney with Kester & Quinlan, LLP in Newport Beach, California. General Quinlan served over 32 years active and reserve as a naval aviator in U.S. Marine Corps Squadron, Air Group, Air Wing, Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Force Component, Joint and Combined command assignments.  

    Erroll Southers is the Deputy Director of the California Office of Homeland Security, appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger and is responsible for oversight of post 9/11 counterterrorism policy issues, initiatives and projects that have emerged to protect the critical infrastructure of the world’s sixth largest economy.  

    Geoffrey Stack is a Managing Director of Irvine-based SARES·REGIS Group, one of the largest, most diversified commercial and residential real estate firms in the West.   

    Dr. Richard Wade is the President of Risk Management Sciences, a private consulting firm, where his current clients include the Princess, Norwegian, and Orient Cruise Lines.
