On December 10th, 2013, CUSA held its Fall Advisory Meeting and Holiday Social at the UC Irvine University Club. Over 50 faculty, staff, students, and community leaders gathered to discuss the past, present, and future of our center. From the opening remarks of CUSA Director Richard Matthew:
“We can do a much better job at linking this huge stock of human ingenuity that our kind has. We have all these capable people, all these incredible minds. Yet we are not solving simple problems, and we’re letting them grow into big problems.”
Matthew highlighted the center’s transformation over the years to meet these escalating human and environmental security challenges. He noted that, within the timeframe of a decade, CUSA has transitioned from a fledgling research collective to a strong and established research center. Guests also shared their thoughts and suggestions about where the center was now, where it should be going, and what active role each attendee could take to contribute in the coming year.
We are always grateful to bring together our diverse and dynamic community in celebration and service – thanks to all who attended and and we look forward to a great 2014 with you!
